DYNATHERM® HDPE PIPE
Reducing pipe solar heating by up to 50% is now simple with the white coated Dynatherm® HDPE pipe.
In above ground applications where piping is exposed to direct sunlight, standard black HDPE pipe can reach more than 70°C. To avoid premature failure, this requires a decrease of 20% or more in the maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP), and a decrease in the design life of up to 90%.
Tests show that the white coated Dynatherm® HDPE pipe reaches a maximum temperature of around 40°C in direct sunlight depending upon application conditions.
Major benefits of a reduction in the solar heating:
- Use pipe with a thinner wall thickness (one or two SDR’s higher) compared to black HDPE, or a higher operating pressure.
- Reduce length required for snaking/ thermal expansion.
- Avoid issues caused by delivery of hot water to the end use.
- Increase the design life of the pipeline.
Note: The service life extrapolations used in this guideline are based on ISO 9080 data and extrapolation rules. Actual service lifetime of the pipeline system depends on application conditions. ISO 9080 does not infer pipeline system service lifetime.
